Yusuf M. Saleeby, M.D.

Dr. Saleeby is a 1991 graduate with a medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta Georgia.  Upon completion of post-graduate training at East Carolina University School of Medicine in Greenville, North Carolina, he had a two decade career in Emergency Medicine.   In addition he pursued training in functional and age-management medicine.  Currently, he practices holistic integrative and functional medicine in South & North Carolina at Priority Health of the Carolinas.  For almost a decade he resided in Savannah, GA and founded the Saleeby Institute of Medicine in the early 2000s.  Dr. Saleeby’s role with Vitality Acupuncture will be to collaborate and consult the advanced nurse practitioners with patient care.

From 2000 until 2006 he was appointed as co-medical director of the Emergency Department at Liberty Regional Medical Center, Hinesville, GA.  Dr. Saleeby also served for two years as medical director for the South Carolina Urban Search & Rescue Task Force-1.  He is a member of ILADS an organization that treats Lyme disease and associated tick-borne chronic illness.  Dr. Saleeby is also a member of IFM the Institute for Functional Medicine.  He has also been a past member of A4M, ACAM and the American Telehealth Association.

Dr. Saleeby sits on the medical advisory board for both the Aerobic & Fitness Association of America (AFAA), and Beachbody (P90X- Shakeology- fame).  During the past decade he has formulated original sports enhancement and dietary supplements for a number of companies.  He is co-founder of a self-monitoring and laboratory testing company Zimetry launched in 2015.   Dr. Saleeby has a particular interest in adrenal and thyroid disorders, autoimmune disorders and tick borne illness (Lyme disease and co-infections).

In 2006 Dr. Saleeby authored a book on specialty medicinal herbs entitled:  “Wonder Herbs: A Guide to Three Adaptogens” (Xlibris, 2006) and is a featured speaker on nutrition and adaptogen herbs in the region.  Dr. Saleeby is a contributor to the Life Extension Foundation’s 5th Edition Disease Prevention & Treatment tome (2013).  He contributed a chapter in a book on Hypothyroidism Stop the Thyroid Madness II (Laughing Grape, 2014).  He is a contributing editor for American Fitness magazine.  An avid medical blogger, he also writes on health/medical and travel articles for regional and national publications.

Additionally, his interests as an Am. Civil War historian, member of the Society of Civil War Surgeons, and National Museum of Civil War Medicine, gives him the opportunity to lectures on medicine & surgery during the “War between the States” and physician luminaries of the time.  He lectures on Dr. Hunter H. McGuire (CSA), Dr. Simon Baruch (CSA), Dr. Joseph Letterman (USA) and Dr. Frances P. Porcher (CSA).  Dr. Saleeby displays a collection of medical antiques and books dating c.100 AD through the mid-1950’s.  He lectured at the 2015 Annual meeting at the National Museum of Civil War Medicine in Fredrick, MD and present on Dr. Francis P. Procher (CSA) and his work in herbal medicine.

He enjoyed several years training with Team Savannah’s Olympic Style Lifting team and competed in regional and National Masters Olympic Style Weightlifting & the Georgia Olympic Games in the mid-2000’s.  He had the opportunity to oar (row) a Greek Trireme (replica of a 120-foot ancient warship) on the Aegean Sea and on the Thames River in London in the early 1990s as part of an American contingent of rowers, he also served as the crew’s assistant medical officer.  He is married with 2 children.
