Massage & Body Work

We are currently offering massages with appointments on Saturdays from 9am-2pm.

We offer a wide-range of massage modalities and tailor every massage session to the needs of each client.

Deep Tissue/Sports Massage:
Deep tissue massage is a type of massage therapy that focus on chronic pain and tension issues. Some of the techniques used may be similar to Swedish massage, but the pressure is more firm and the pace is slower. Other techniques may include: trigger point therapy, post-isometric relaxation technique (PIR), and myofascial release techniques. The focus is on realigning the body through working with the deeper muscle layers, fascia and tendons. Deep tissue massage works to break down adhesion where tissue become tight and rigid and to increase circulation and range of motion while simultaneously reducing pain and inflammation.

Swedish Massage:
This is probably the most widely known massage modality and a good one to start with if you have never has a massage before. The focus is on relaxation and stress reduction using a lighter, yet effective pressure for reducing body-mind tension. Swedish massage incorporates a variety of strokes including long, gliding effleurage strokes, kneading-like petrissage strokes, friction to warm the muscles and increase blood flow, and tapotement which uses tapping or vibrational strokes to decrease a muscle spasm and break  up adhesions. As with any massage modality, the techniques are adapted to the client’s preferences.

Prenatal Massage:
Therapeutic massage is an excellent source of support, relief and relaxation during pregnancy and beyond. Traditional massage techniques are used to meet the needs of the mother in a safe way. Special considerations are made with positioning so that the mother and baby stay comfortable throughout the session. Your session will be tailored to meet your needs whether specific aches and pains are the motivation for massage, or a desire to just relax and be nurtured.

Massage Cupping:
This is a treatment that I often add in for those suffering from chronic pain issue. Soft, silicone massage cups are used over moisturized skin to lift the tissue and break up adhesion where connective tissue is stuck. The amount of suction used can be modified to the clients preference. Often the cups are left in certain areas to help release stagnated blood and metabolic debris. This modality can really help to enhance the therapeutic massage experience.

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation which promotes healing on a physical, mental and emotional level. It involves the using gentle hand holds around the body including the head, torso, arms and legs. The techniques used are not painful or invasive in any way. Generally the sessions are done fully clothed unless there is also a desire to incorporate other types of massage into the session in which case you would dress down to your comfort level.

Infant Craniosacral Therapy:
Infant craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle, non-invasive technique for restoring optimal function and ease of movements in babies. Frequently the birth process, whether it was vaginal or surgically assisted, can result in restrictions in the muscles, fascia, and/or skeletal layers. CST involves using extremely light pressure to find and release areas of restriction. Some reasons to treat a baby include, but are not limited to: feeding difficulties, colic, reflux, baby seems uncomfortable in his/her body, difficult birth, preterm babies, baby has a flat spot (plagiocephaly) and torticollis.
